Greenland Australia signed a contract with tier-one contractor Probuild yesterday afternoon to complete design and construction of its ‘Diamond in the Sky’, the 235-metre tall Greenland Centre Sydney. The premium 479-apartment building will be the tallest residential tower in Sydney when completed. Probuild are a very capable company, with solid experience in high-rise, and will be a good fit. Their high profile projects include The Towers and Ritz Carlton Hotel at Elizabeth Quay in Perth.

The Probuild team will be co-located with Greenland’s to ensure close cooperation. Greenland Centre tower construction will commence almost immediately and overlap with the demolition work currently being done by Delta Group. Their removal of precast panels and the concrete wrapped around structural steel has accelerated onsite after the installation of a second tower crane in mid-October. Basement works also continue in the former Sydney Water HQ building, following construction of a large slab on 14 October involving 72 tonnes of reinforcing steel and 300 cubic metres of concrete. Probuild will have full site possession in 2017.

Discussions are progressing with the City of Sydney over detailed design of the 2,000 square metre Creative Hub that will occupy five floors. It will be dedicated to dance, theatre, music, film and the visual arts for the City of Sydney. There will also be an Artist-in-Residence for a creative fellowship program, and office space for the peak artistic bodies that will manage and rent out the facilities. This initiative involving a 99 year-lease to the City of Sydney in exchange for more floor space overall forms part of the Voluntary Planning Agreement reached between Council and Greenland, and was welcomed by the arts community.
